HOW DO YOU PACK A SUITCASE?

There’s a delicate balance of packing a suitcase to its fullest potential without ending up with seriously wrinkled clothes (not ideal vacation apparel). Luckily, HGTV star David Bromstad has just the formula to pull it off.

First, roll all your clothes: It’s fast and maximizes space. Next, don’t just toss in your bras, ladies. Stack ’em to maintain their shape and save space. Since dirty shoes can muck up the few travel clothes you have, keep those sneakers in a shoe bag or snag a shower cap from your hotel. Pack the heaviest items toward the wheels (so fragile items aren’t smashed when you roll the suitcase) and toss in a few dryer sheets for a fresh linen scent. Ta-da! You’re ready to jet set. Find more of Bromstad’s packing tips here.

If you’re driving (via US-93 S and I-40 E), the trek will take you 4 hours and 3 minutes. Add an extra four minutes by taking I-40 the entire way. Care to walk through a scorching hot dessert? You are oh-so-handy, Google Maps.

Perhaps you can list one or two, but few people can roll the seven wonders off the tips of their tongues. We have you covered. The seven wonders are The Great Pyramid at Giza (Cairo, Egypt), the Hanging Gardens of Babylon (Al-Hillah, Iraq), the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus (Selcuk, Turkey), the Statue of Zeus at Olympia (Olympia, Greece), the Tomb of Maussollos at Halicarnassus (Southwestern Turkey), Colossus at Rhodes (Rhodes, Greece) and the Lighthouse of Alexandria (Pharos Island, Alexandria, Egypt), according to Travel Channel.

Fun fact: Historians believe scholars started the list in the second century B.C. and that the final seven wonders were defined in the Middle Ages.

Beach towel, check! Sunscreen, check! You have the necessities covered, but a few other items might come in handy during your day of lounging in the sand. OmniHotels also suggests bringing large, resealable plastic bags (handy for stashing beach treasures like seashells and sand dollars — or for stowing a wet swimsuit), pain reliever in case a sunburn begins to set in and soothing moisturizer for dry or sand-irritated skin. Of course, a clean diaper also comes in handy for hiding valuable items.

Liquids in your carry-on bags cannot exceed 3.4 ounces. To keep that straight, along with all the persnickety plastic bag business, remember this formula from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security: 3-1-1. You can take 3.4-ounce bottles, inside 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag, and each traveler can have 1 plastic bag. Or, of course, save yourself the trouble and stow those liquids in your check-in bag.

Typically, 25 years old. Rental car companies have traditionally been leery of renting to less experienced drives, but there are now programs that cater to young’uns. Drivers ages 21 to 24 can rent cars from companies such as Budget, Enterprise, Hertz and Advantage, but there’s a daily surcharge — which varies by location — that can add up quickly. It averages around $25 per day, according to travel website SmarterTravel. As for luxury vehicles? Those are often totally off-limits to the under-25 crowd.
